The incident took place around 12:15 p.m., Friday, July 26, when officers received a tip that a gun was "hidden," on the property of the Boys & Girls Club, on Delaware Avenue, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.
Officers quickly responded to the club and searched the area until they found a loaded 380 semi-automatic Browning in a plastic bag tucked along the fence line, Conklin said.
Conklin said the department was glad the department received the information before any children, or adults were injured.
"We (the department) are happy to have received the tip and for our officers to be able to respond so quickly and find the weapon," Conklin said.
He encourages all residents who may know the whereabouts of a weapon or find a gun to contact police immediately. Calls and tips can be made anonymously.
"Thankfully no one was injured," he added.
